Wednesdays Rock! when they are filled with fish head soup, fish egg spread, akutaq, pike and seal oil, finishing a qaspeq, and finishing a beautiful wall hanging that I inherited from my mama bear Jeanne.
The fish egg spread was ahhhhhmazing! And now its all gone! In my tummy and I shared with my coworkers and friends! I cant wait to make more.
I was able to finish this lovely qaspeq for one of my first friends in kindergarten. I loved how bright and fun it is!
You cant have fish head soup without the akutaq so I had to make a fresh batch. Akutaq is eskimo ice cream made with Crisco, sugar, milk, and berries. This time I used my fresh blueberries and salmon berries and it tasted scrumdiddlyumptious! Don’t knock it till you try it 🙂
And my mama bear Jeanne gave me this beautiful wall hanging that she was going to toss aside but I gladly snatched it up! The only thing I had to do was add the binding. I love how beautiful and simplistic it is. This is her view from looking out her store in Cooper Landing.
I am hitting the road and heading to Milky Chance this evening in Anchorage. I hope to goodness the roads are not jam packed and I can make it in time to see the show!
This morning we woke up to -44 degrees with the wind chill, and boy I tell it was cold, cold, cold! On days when its so cold, those are the hardest to get out of bed. We heat our house mainly with the wood stove, and keep the thermo down to 68 degrees, which is beyond freezing for me! But you just gotta keep chugging along! The juice train has slowed down to once maybe if we are lucky twice a day. This morning I made a quick berry & banana smoothie which was delish!
Classes are keeping me busy, and on my toes, as well as work. I have been sewing like a maniac and heres my progress soo far!
Mighty Kuskokwim Fish bags that hold plastic bags!
And!
Make-up bags. You can see the bag on the right was my first back into working with zippers 😀
As you can see I would rather be sewing, sewing away than homework! But my goals have been to do as much homework in one sitting so I can sew away!
To kick my butt back in gear I have been getting or TRYING to get back in the gym every other day! I need to start training my butt into Portland 1/2 marathon shape! In high school I ran cross-country and the fastest 5k I ran was 19:28 today I ran it in 26:58. Thats not too bad considering what it was before! I am making progress each week and I am loving every minute of it!
Yum!
Onto the juice train! I made a delish juice this evening and am sipping away as I type. I have managed to eat healthy, try to maintain a good work out plan, and juice which has kept me at 130 lbs.
Since my work is nuts and doesnt allow any youtube videos to be watched, or any videos for that matter I must get working on this damn homework! Have a great evening!
Found some crazy inspiration yesterday and went on a baking spree!!!
I was feeling inspired to make homemade pizzas. So to start my day I out I tested out some HUMONGOUS cinnamon rolls. This was my first time making cinnaman rolls and I used this recipe from Finnskimo’s blogspot. It was super easy and quick! They turned out amazing! Well the first batch were most definately on steroids!
Cinnamon rolls on roids!
From cinnamon rolls it was onto the bread. I have never made homemade bread before so I was a little nervous. But, I think I did okay I made about 9 loaves, and dinner rolls the only thing I will do differently will be to use half and half with all purpose flour and whole wheat flour. For the dinner rolls and bread I used all wheat flour, but the bread turned out great! I used the recipe from The Crafty Conundrum’s website. Heres the recipe.
Friday work station
After the cinnamon rolls, dinner rolls, and bread it was time for the pizza! I found an easy pizza dough here. I had a bit of trouble working with the pizza dough because my yeast was too cold. For some odd reason I thought I needed to keep the yeast in the fridge BUT turns out that doesnt do anything. Three times I tried making the pizza dough but the yeast wasnt activating and finally I took it out and let it warm up and it worked!
The finished product!
Overall I had an amazing, productive Friday! My usual Fridays as lounging around, drinking coffee all day and trying to the find the motivation to do something but not this past Friday! Also since I sprained my ankle pretty bad in my basketball game on Thursday I was hobbling in the kitchen all day yesterday. I wasnt going to let a little pain stop me from being awesome!
Not too shabby.
I also in the process of making of King Salmon fish bag holders. Heres a sample of one. You put your recycle bags in the tail and pull them out from the mouth! They are brilliant!
Fish bags
Tomorrow will be another productive day! But I will most definately be spending more time in the great outdoors. We had an amazing day of snow, snow, snow! So I cant wait to try out my skis for the first time this year .
Since I havent been juicing because Joe is still on the juice fast I have been trying to eat healthy. Salads, caribou, moose, and beans & rice. Tonight was the first night that I started juicing! 🙂
Caribou spaghetti with sauteed peppers & mushrooms
Carrots & apple and it is delicious.
Yummy carrot & apple juice
I started my work out plan again and started with rowing. We have a rowing machine at home and 15-20 minutes out of my night along with pull-ups is a great way for me to start the work out plan. Since I have been getting home at 7 every evening, and have to cook dinner I will start my running tomorrow. I like running earlier in my day to get going, and moving.
I was late getting to the Farmers Market which opens at 3 pm and I got there at 3:05 and all the kale was gone! Along with other veggies! I was pretty sad but I guess I just have to get there earlier. But I did pick up some delicious apples, carrots, and lemons. Still amazes me how much I spend every Wednesday & Saturdays but I have to remember its healthy!
I found out some bad news this afternoon, one my friends/classmates died in a car crash. I am still in shock, she was only 27 years old with a beautiful family. Please cherish every moment with your family, and friends. Life is to precious to waste.

Its day 4 and I am feeling great! Last night was a little tough but I managed. I was smart last night and made all my breakfast juice so I wouldnt have to wake up at the butt crack of dawn and make it and be super grumpy! Yesterday was tough! I only got up just in time to make breakfast slurp, so 3 jars came with me to work. Those lasted till about noon and then my tummy was a grumbling! But, I didnt want to go home and juice because Joe was fast asleep. See the thing is we work opposite shifts every other week so its kind of tough but we manage. Its a whooping -22 degrees this morning with the cold blowing wind!
Gorgeous clouds on a warm day.
The fruits and veggies are draining our accounts which is making it somewhat tough to keep going. Between Joe and myself we have spent almost if not more than $500! Its insane. The other night I came home with cucumbers, carrots, cabbage, red peppers, and apples and it was $65 and thats cheap because I bought it at the little farmers market here. Every other night we are forced to go and shop and drop a hundred easy. But who said health and wellness came easy right?
Breakfast, my favorite juice of the day 😀
I have been trying to exercise on our new rowing machine, which by the way is awesome. But, my metabolism is so quick these juices run right through my system like coffee. By the time I am home, juiced up and ready to work out Im hitting the restroom already. My feet are itching to start training for the half marathon but I dont think I have enough energy to burn off working out. I tried the rower the other night and had to stop after about 5 minutes, I started getting dizzy. I guess I will just wait to start working out again.
The longer I think about juice fasting the more cooking ideas that I come up with. My freezer is loaded with moose meat, caribou, and salmon and they are all calling my name. This juice fast has been great so far, and the juicer is awesome! Breville all the way! I am managing to keep off those 10 pounds, and Joe is actually down now 15 pounds. Its an amazing feeling, I almost feel comfortable in my skin now to just get toned and I will feel awesome!
Anyhoots, I will post photos later I dont have wifi here at my work which is bananas but I manage. Have a great day!

Day 4 is down the drain, and ready to conquer the next 6 long, tough days! We are running low on our supply so thank goodness the Farmers Market is open tomorrow so we can restock on veggies & fruits! We spent the evening at the Warrior Dome and watched some exciting, close basketball games. JV Warrior boys defeated the Napaskiak Hawks by 1 measly point but they did it! And our Warrior varsity girls just barely were defeated by the Newhalen Malamute girls, it was a very close and exciting game. Both teams put up an excellent effort!
Now that I am home, feet up and I am ready to relax. But to keep me happy and full I must get the energy to make some delcious dinner juice! Have a great evening! Day 4 is down the poop chute!
Well its day 2 of the juice restart and feeling great! I am still 10 pounds down which is awesome! Breakfast was a a delicious apple, pears, banana, strawberries, grapefruit, and kiwi slurp! For dinner it will be a mix of dark leafy greens, cucumbers, carrots, spinach, and a few more tasty veggies! Went to Meyers Farm and only splurged with $68 of veggies which was good! There is no kale in town so cabbage and spinach will have to replace it. Its taken all my might to snack on chips & salsa, or nachos, or whatever but I have to remember its all mental. Ready to conquer another 8 more days of this! 😀
Its day 6 and I have never been more excited! Our juicer has finally arrived! I have never been so excited to eat my breakfast, lunch & dinner! We have gone from one extreme to another. Yesterday we were at -60 degrees to 11 degrees and storming today!!! For the past 2 days of not juicing we have done our best to eat healthy from a hearty salad to eggplant parmesan. And dabbling in coffee 😀 We are back on the juice train tonight! Yippee!
Christmas has arrived early in our household!
On tonights dinner menu kale, cucumber, apples, pears, orange, carrots, celery, red peppers, orange peppers, and cabbage. Feels so good to be juicing again! I am down 3 juices and 2 nalgene bottles of water and feel great!
Works like a charm!
I have to add that this machine works so smooth makes me excited to juice everyday! She doesnt shake! She doesnt attempt to spin in circles like a maniac! Shes perfect! I would definately recommend this product to friends & family! Day 6 back on the juice train, really day 1! Ready for another 10 days of juiceness!
On a happier note 15 credits is beginning to start kicking me in the behind, BUT I have discovered a new love for the TV show Mad Men! If you havent watched it, I would highly suggest it!
Its the morning of day 3 and I feel great! Woke up feeling great at 9 am which is unusual for me because I love, love, love to sleep! On my week off I usually can sleep till 12, 1, 2 in the afternoon. So this juicing this working for my energy! Its a beautiful cold day! Started the morning off right with a breakfast juice that had apples, pears, bananas, strawberries, kiwis, and oranges. It was delicious! We found out yesterday the best way to add in the strawberries and bananas is to blend them into the juice.
Joe had to work at 6:30 am so I had to make enough for him so he can make it through the day! After breakfast it was time to stock up on my groceries. Unfortunately, there was no kale at the Meyers farm so I grabbed some other veggies. I figured I would try the AC and I scored with one small batch of kale which I was grateful for. I also scored on some half of apples & oranges. Heres what $45 worth of groceries look like here.
$45 worth of veggies & fruits
So far so good! Its been a beautiful morning! I have been busy with loads of energy doing laundry, cleaning house, dishes, and preparing our vegetables. I was so proud of myself I had to take a picture of all my hard work!
All my hard work paid off!
The veggies & fruit may not be as top notch as I hope but they do the job! I am off to continue my busy day of cleaning, and a long day at the gym enjoying our young Warrior basketball players. Heres to a beautiful day!
Beauty, right in my backyard!
Day 3 was a success! Although due to the craziness of the juicer stopping on me twice tonight while I was juicing, and the uncontrollable shaking, we are stopping tomorrow until our juicer arrives in the mail. I am expecting our new juicer to be here either Monday or Tuesday so we can begin again then. I am sad to stop since I hae been going on strong for the past 3 days with juices but its too much to hold down the juicer with all my might so that it doesnt shake off the countertop. Tonight we watched an exciting game our Bethel Warrior boys defeated the Nome Nanooks! Good job Warriors, way to get away with a W!
Here was our last and final dinner for the evening until our new juicer arrives. We had kale, carrots, celery, beet, lemon, orange peppers, cucumbers, and apples it was delicious!
Its the morning of day 2 and we are already seeing some amazing numbers. I lost 5 pounds, and Joe lost 11 pounds. Due to lack of energy levels we treated ourselves to a little sleeping in today which felt amazing. I am hoping that today will be a better day with the cravings. Our breakfast today consists of apples, oranges, pears, kale, and bananas. Joe is juicing it up right now as I type.
Day 2
Day 2 was a success! It was a little tough, energy levels low but its great that we both have the day off. Due to waking up at 12:45 pm we made enough of the morning smoothie to hold us over till dinner. Its not so hard in the morning because the juices are delicious but when it comes to lunch and dinner its a little tough. We had to make a store run because we were running out of fruits and only spent about $100 at the grocery store. We came home with celery, kiwis, apples, pears, orange peppers, ginger, and bananas. So far $375 down the chute but the healthy changes are slowly paying off.
Dinner was not as tasty we added a little too much ginger and it overpowers the juice. Dinner consisted of cucumbers, carrots, kale, way too much ginger, beets, tomatoes, lemon, celery, and an apple. I dont think that ginger will be included in any of the juices from here on out.
Basketball season is in full swing at the Warrior Dome and our girls & boys have been dominating on the court. Joe & I have been dominating all those tasty smells nachos, chili cheese dogs, popcorn, skittles, and much more! I would have to say that overall day 2 was a success!
Day 1 was a success! Yay! It was a little difficult. I would glance at my coffee cup and crave coffee. Any delicious smell turned my head. But we made it through the day Joe & I!
