Sleep. Whats Sleep?

Sleep. Whats that?

I haven’t been able to catch a good wink of sleep since the fish, berries, and business have been in full swing! Oh yeah and working full time. But, next Friday is my last day andΒ I am going to pursue my business full time, school full time and hopefully a traveling teacher of qaspeq making.

I got to go home for 4th of July and it was so wonderful! I got to fill my bucket with blueberries and salmon berries! Lots of visits in my with stinkiest nieces and nephews and lots of visits with good friends and family.

I am having some serious berry picking withdrawals seeing all the blueberry picking and salmon berry picking photos. The berries are in abundance this year and I miss the walk to my favorite tundra spot. Urban living is a little different because you have to worry about bears, property lines, and getting lost. Ha! Bethel there is tundra for DAYS. You would be able to see a bear 20 miles away running to you. Haha. And I am not to comfortable being in the woods yet.

Dipnetting on the Kenai is in full swing! I got my first taste of it on Sunday and now I am hooked! I walked away with 3 Kenai River reds and lost about 7. Oops! I am learning this way of fishing which is definitely different from fishing on the Kuskokwim.

I tested out a new sewing pattern Prima Diva Wallet which I had some difficulty with. I don’t know if I will be making anymore. But it was a good challenge.

I had a Homer getaway with the girls which was much needed. We were tourists for the day. Homer is a beautiful place! And it is only an hour drive away which is awesome.

I was able to finish one custom ordered qaspeq with this beautiful Art Gallery buttery fabric. It turned out beautiful!

I was able to whip out some beautiful BB Bags and two of the three are sold. I will post the one that is for sale on the Items for Sale page.

We celebrated Easy E’s 11th birthday yesterday! Cant believe that kid is 11! Its been fun watching him over the last 6 years.

Salmon Life is the way to go. We use everything from the head, heart, eggs, backbone, skin and the whole fish. We don’t waste. I have yet to brine, dry, and smoke my fish because I don’t have a hanging rack, or smokehouse yet. Hopefully this month we will build one and I can take care of the fish in the freezer.

Life is busy. Life is good. I am excited for my next adventure!

Life is too short to be anything but happy! Do what you love. Follow your heart. If your unhappy find what makes you happy and jump. Don’t wait until your retired to do all the things you WISH you could do now. Make a plan and execute it.

Stay tuned for more fun posts! I got berries, fish, outdoor concerts, half marathon fun, and sewing more to come!

Happy Hump Day!

April Qaspeq Class & Fun Stuff

Check out all the fun stuff!

πŸ™‚

I just returned to my other home from an amazing weekendΒ  in Bethel! πŸ™‚

It was a wonderful qaspeq class with 13 students and almost everyone made 2 qaspeqs and I had a beginner student who made 7 qaspeqs!

It was such a refreshing trip home. I got to visit with my stinker nieces, steam with my girlfriends, get some snuggles with Owen, and visit with some of my favorite elders.

It is always a whirlwind trip jam packed with goodies! I was so thrilled with all my students and their beautiful qaspeqs! Many of them are ready to make more and their love for sewing sparked over the weekend!

And before class I got to do some fun sewing in and made a super duper cute BB Bag.

Summer is in the air and I am getting excited for a new kind of summer in my new home. I hope to get back on the fish skin sewing train and use up my beautiful halibut, snapper and salmon just marinating in alcohol in my fridge. They are anxiously waiting to be sewn πŸ™‚

I failed to mention I made my awesome work cutting/fabric storage area in my Kenai Construction Academy! Check me out! I am trying my hand at everything so I can someday be a super duper handywoman.

Happy Monday!

Lets just say it was a busy busy December with sewing, sewing and more sewing!

Because homemade gifts are the best it was a busy sewing month. Frozen quilts. Christmas qaspeq vests. And just call me the crazy bag lady it was a busy month of bag making.

I have decided to move forward and start my own sewing business. Coming up with the business name was tough but I nailed it down to Sew Yup’ik.

BUT!

How the heck can one get excited for Christmas when its 40 degrees and raining?! UGH! Small world problems, I guess I should just be grateful, right….

Anyways! Enjoy! Its November 13th and we are nearing to a new year, a new leaf, and a new sewing machine maybe! πŸ™‚

Happy Thirsty Thursday for those of YOU that celebrate πŸ˜‰

Healthy start to Movember

November is off to a great start!

Halloween was a hit! We had a great halloween gathering with our friends and it was ahhhhmazing!

We had costume winners! We had scary treats! Bobbing for beer! Nothing better than to start November off to a BANG!

Had to whip out this quick qaspeq vest for a welcome to Bethel gift. But it didnt fit so its up for grabs its about a size small for $65.

Quick homemade gift. Qaspeq vest & fireweed jalapeno jelly!

Im trying this whole meal planning and hopefull it will kick me off to a great start. SO far so good, although it might be TOO much food. who would have thunk that.

Lunch:

I roasted all the vegetables at 425 degrees with a little bit of oil, salt and pepper.

Asparagus, broccoli, sweet potatoes, and cauliflower.

I cooked up some brown rice in the rice cooker and put a cup in each dish.

For the chicken I cooked them on stovetop and seasoned with cumin, paprika, garlic salt, and pepper. They are delicious!

And of course hard boiled eggs for a snack here and there, great protein!

Im trying this healthy meal planning out and so far so good.

These breakfast burritos are very hearty and filling! Probably should have kept them light.

Breakfast burritos:

Eggs

Potatoes

Peppers

Spinach

Chesee

Voila!

Let them freeze and then wrap then in foil. When you are ready to heat up wrap in a wet paper towel for about 2 minutes.

Of course I had to add some humor to my scary meatloaf fellows. πŸ™‚

IMG_0848
Who doesnt love scary meatloaf?

I was googling couples costumes and found this great idea to be crown and coke! These took me about an hour and they turned out awesome! I cant wait to start brewing up ideas for next year!

IMG_0849
My quick impromptu halloween whipped out costumes for the hubby and me. πŸ™‚

Here are the few decorations we decided to put up last minute. We scared many kids and adults and had children crying even before getting to the door. We were also blasting scary music in the entryway which freaked me out a little.

I decorated the outside of the house last night and just need to add more spooky things and spooky tunes!

Stay tuned!

Happy Halloween! Be safe! & Eat lots of candy!

October as a busy bee

Another busy bee.

Who says 13 credits, full time job, part time job, teenager, husband, pupper-do and sewing wasnt possible?

I guess you can say I like to stay busy as a bee, and do a very good job of that.

We are half-way thru October, which is insane! Where has summer gone? Where has fall gone?

As winter nears I get excited but sad because of how quickly time passes us, and sometimes I dont stop to enjoy the moments.

I enjoy what I do.

I enjoy my full time job.

My part time job working with the political frenzy is coming to an end. Only 12 more days and then the big boom of rush to the polls. So vote early, and just flat right vote.

And I love sewing. I love when winter nears because that means it times to bust out the fur and get fuzzy.

If I could just sew and go to school I dont know if that would be busy enough for me hence the two other jobs and all the other hats at home.

BUT enough rambling.

Heres the latest and greatest and I should have more projects to share before the end of the year!

Enjoy!
